At Recurrent, transparency is one of our core principles. So, when we get asked why we can’t support Canada or why a car isn’t compatible, we like to be as upfront as possible: technology!
We’re a small, but growing, team and it takes our programmers and product team time to incorporate changes. Here are some frequent asks we get:
Canadian & other international users – can we join Recurrent?
We would love to support our neighbors to the North just as much as we would love to support the entire international community of EV drivers. We get messages from people all around the world, from Canada to Australia to UAE, asking whether non-US-based cars can be connected to Recurrent. We are working to find solutions to the technical hurdles that this involves, including sourcing international weather data and map providers that integrate with our architecture. Please join our waitlist so we can let you know when we’re available in your region.
Kia, Rivian, Polestar, Lucid, and other vehicles – when will you support these?
Recurrent works with a fleet management company called Smartcar whose software allows us to pull odometer readings, charging information, and range from connected vehicles. Smartcar has told Recurrent and our drivers to expect Kia compatibility by the end of 2022. There is no current ETA for Rivian, Polestar, Lucid and other emerging brands, but Smartcar remains invested in working on eventual compatibility. Both Recurrent and Smartcar prioritize new vehicles based on interest, so please let us know what kind of EV you’d like us to add next: support@recurrentauto.com.
3G sunsetting – why is my car no longer supported?
In early 2022, most major cellular networks stopped supporting the 3G network. As a result, some cars manufactured in the early to mid-2010s with 3G modems are no longer compatible with Recurrent’s monthly reports because we can no longer pull data. Some models were eligible for modem upgrades from the manufacturer and some can still take advantage of our on-demand reports. To see our full compatibility list, click here.
Can I see historical reports for my vehicle?
One of the top requests we get is for drivers to be able to look at past months’ reports. While it feels like it should be easy to store all the old reports, it actually requires a change in our system architecture to do so. We are happy to send drivers their old data, but if you are interested in the visualization, we suggest that you PDF or screenshot your reports for now. We will let you know when we are able to offer archived reports.
